The reviews are in from my German readers…and they’re wunderbar!

Mar 19, 2022 | My Books |

In the middle of 2021, I began translating my books into German. I’d always liked the idea of translating my novels for a wider audience and, hearing that Germany was packed with prolific readers, I decided to start there.

Almost immediately, I was blown away by the response! The Penang books were the first to be translated, followed by the Across the Seas series. At the beginning of this month, Sisters at War completed the latter list – and in April, Jasmine in Paris will be added to the Penang collection. Germany has fast become a significant audience for me, far more so than I ever could have hoped or anticipated. I’m thrilled.

Of course, I was curious to know what they thought of these books by an English author…and today, I’m sharing some of their reviews for you. Don’t worry…I won’t expect you to read them in German (I certainly couldn’t myself!).

Reviews for the Penang Series

Known as the Penang Historischer Roman in German, here are some of my favourites comments from readers..

“Very interesting and excitingly written – A captivating romance novel with many fantastic descriptions of the country and people in the Far East, in a region that you otherwise learn very little about. There are 5 stars from me 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 and a reading recommendation.” (die Perle von Penang)

“This novel simply dragged me away with it. Beautifully written, never boring or long-winded, but exciting, soulful and steeped in history. Full five points from me.” (Perle)

“A captivating novel. It is simply insane what kind of inhumanity happens during times of war, what a person is capable of, what a person can bear. The novel shows all of this.” (Gefangene von Penang)

“A book about a strong, courageous woman who wants to rearrange her life and therefore marries a man she doesn’t know at all…A sad story told beautifully. To be recommended.” (Perle)

Reviews for the Across the Seas series

Translated title ‘Jenseits des Meeres’, which I always think sounds a far more beauiful title than the original! Here are some of thre comments….

“5 stars – Very nice to read, sometimes a bit cheesy, but still great. I really liked the writing style and the story… Great reading pleasure…I’m looking forward to the next volume.” (Auf der anderen Seite des Ozeans)

“I’ve devoured the book, I’m already looking forward to the 3rd part.” (Sturm in unseren Herzen)

“I can only recommend the book. Beautifully written, I couldn’t stop reading and devoured it in one go, so I got 5 stars from me :-))))))” (des Ozeans)

“This novel tackles the substance of every reader. The difficult and violent lives of women in this book are written in such a disturbing way that you are emotionally challenged and carried away…I give this book 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟” (Sturm)

Thank you so much to everyone who has left a review (in German or otherwise!) – they truly are lovely to read, and I appreciate the time you’ve taken to write them.

Of course, as with anything in life, not all the reviews are positive!! And naturally, where translations are concerned, constructive criticism often relates to the language! But this is helpful too, and I’m thrilled to be working with such a wonderful translator.

I often share my favourite reviews from readers on my Facebook page, so if you haven’t already pop on over and give me a follow!

I am finishing A Patchwork Quilt and I give it 5 stars. I should try Pearl of Penan after I finish Patchwork Quilt. Thanks. I am truly interested in the Far East as I have travelled there and I know how different our cultures are. I love to study cultures. Thank you Ms. Clare for your lovely writing.
