Hearts of Glass
Love, betrayal, courage and art collide in Clare’s latest book series.
Three full-length novels – The Artist’s Apprentice, The Artist’s Wife and The Artist’s War – set in Hampshire, England, before and during the First World War.
In The Artist’s Apprentice, Alice flees her family home following her father’s failed attempt at an arranged marriage. Determined to make a life as an independent woman, she takes a job aa a stained glass artist’s apprentice – only to find that the man she will be working with is none other than the man she was supposed to marry. Both are fleeing their past and, in a world that is approaching war, they find their work brings them closer together.
In The Artist’s Wife, Alice and Edmund’s idyllic Hampshire life is threated by the looming war. The unexpected arrival of Alice’s brother brings short-lived happiness, before he enlists and leaves her once again. In a world being torn apart, can Alice and Edmund hold on to each other?
And in The Artist’s War, Alice struggles to keep the Hampshire workshop alive, with Edmund away at war. Comfort comes from her brother’s return, his injuries preventing him from re-entering the fight. But as the news from the Front grows worse each day, she wonders if she will ever see Edmund again. Then a telegram arrives…
The Artist’s War will be released on 20 August 2024, and is now available for pre-order.
