I woke at 6 this morning with the opening of the new book in my head. I’ve been meaning to restart writing “morning pages” so half asleep I grabbed a notebook and pen and scribbled away. It’s in the first person – and I think I’ll give that a go this time round. So armed with my six small pages I came up here to my work room to start writing properly. But what did I do? I decided to check out writing software for Mac. Yes the old displacement activity again. To be fair I have been planning to investigate a programme conducive to writing – one that allows me easily to find sections, move text around, play with structure – and I suppose it’s better to do so before I start writing…

Anyway I now have it downloaded. After checking a few options (Storyist, Story Mill and Scrivener I settled on the latter. It seems to have everything I need – including a cork board that I can stick notes and photos on, all my research and notes – and the interface looks very similar to lots of Mac stuff I’m used to. So no reason not to get started right away?

Unfortunately I’ve just agreed to write some more chapters for the Make it and Mend it book – in exchange for not having to make a tablecloth for the book. I can write faster than I can sew. Maybe tomorrow?…
